Installing Chkrootkit to Check Security
This is a quick How to for the installation of chkrootkit
for a CentOS 4 VM.
- The first thing to do is to get the package:
wget ftp://ftp.pangeia.com.br/pub/seg/pac/chkrootkit.tar.gz
- Now you need to un-tar the package:
tar zxvf chkrootkit.tar.gz
- Change to the Directory that was just created:
cd chkrootkit-0.47
- It's time to compile your program:
make sense
- Now let's see if everything is working. Type the following.
./chkrootkit

What was that fault?:
Checking `lkm'... You have 13 process hidden for readdir command You have 2 process hidden for ps command chkproc: Warning: Possible LKM Trojan installed
What that error is, is a false positive generated by the Open VZ technology,
but it does show that chkrootkit is up and running.
